Demographic ageing is one of the most serious challenges Europe is facing. Better care and sustainability of health services calls for innovative ways to address the needs of the elderly. Supporting homecare, i.e. care provided by professionals within users’ own homes, has been identified by EC as a possible solution.
Although an high number of elderly and their families are searching for skilled practitioners they often have to face a mismatch between the skills they are asking for and those offered by job-seekers. The CARESS project will target this skill mismatch in order to overcome it.
The project addresses this scope by adopting an innovative approach to Vocational Education and Training (VET) design and implementation. An initial analysis of the context of elderly homecare will be carried out in the three countries involved in the project and at European level in order to identify:
-    existing elderly Home Health Care Practitioners (HHCPs) and their respective skills and roles;
-    existing curricula, VET and career pathways concerning HHCPs.
Learning outcomes of existing curricula and VET pathways will be mapped against competency needs referring to ESCO, ECVET and EURES in order to define skills and training provision needs in the field of homecare.
Information gathered through the initial analysis of the context will be organized and systematized in a EU framework for VET in the field of homecare. Than national pilots will be designed and implemented in 3 countries, targeting different HCCPs, allowing for the validation of the framework. Pilots will include different educational methods and will be based both on formal (presence learning an e-learning) and on non-formal/informal learning
The CARESS Consortium will include 11 full partners from Italy, Spain and Finland and an umbrella organization. Three associated partners from Italy and UK will provide contributions and feedbacks to the project.


ESSENTIAL project: Ecological Assessment of Cognitive Impairment for Personalized Cognitive Training
PHC 21 – 2015: Advancing active and healthy ageing with ICT: Early risk detection and intervention

The ESSENTIAL project aims at providing models and technologies supporting the early detection and the monitoring of elderly cognitive decline based on an ecological and unobtrusive assessment allowing for personalized interventions countering identified risks.
In order to pursue this scope, the project will target the following four main objectives:

  • definition and validation of an ecological unobtrousive Model for the Early-detection and Monitoring of elderly Cognitive Decline (MEM-CD), and of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, according to the MEM-CD,
  • definition and validation of an ecological, unobtrousive, ICT-based Personalized Cognitive Training Model (PCTM) focusing on actual user risk and status of cognitive decline, detected trough IoT solutions according to  the MEM-CD.

SENECA: Smart Game Based Learning Simulating Business Environment for Education and Businesses

The SENECA project directly addresses the challenges of Smart Game Based Learning Simulating Business Environment for Education and Businesses. Its starting point is the developed strategic gamified business simulation Virtonomics that has been designed and introduced by the private sector. SENECA takes on board the Virtonomics game and seeks to adapt,
customise and complement it in order to bring the business simulation to a higher level that could be formally recognised at schools, universities and industrial companies providing vocational training at the same time stimulating entrepreneurship spirit and increasing a success arte of start-ups. The goal of SENECA is to create an innovative learning methodology and tools using interactive gamified ICT environment in order to reinforce economics, management and entrepreneurship skills though formal and informal education at school, university and vocational training levels. SENECA targets objectives that are measurable, verifiable and achievable within the project life time, and that include: a) Formalise the strategic gamified business simulation Virtonomics for business management and entrepreneurship curriculums at three levels - schools, universities and vocational; b) Create smart and gamified learning methodology supported by ICT tools; c) Validate the innovative SENECA solution for interactive, smart and gamified learning through large scale pilots; d) Support entrepreneurship spirit and reinforce a successful start-ups establishment in Europe; and e) Engage into a multi-stakeholder dialogue.

Collective4Health project:  Participatory healthcare innovation business model through collective platform
ICT-10-2015: Collective Awareness Platforms for Sustainability and Social Innovation

The aim of this proposal is to develop and deploy a large scale open digital platform able to connect citizens to each other by creating individual and collective awareness through the sharing of health related matters.
The platform can facilitate the transposition of existing participative and inclusive societal health solutions to larger transnational scales, allowing for overcoming i) the lack of engagement of the community in the health related innovation process, ii) significant fall-offs in innovation activity as an idea progresses towards a solution in use; and iii) high-potentials solutions do not reach the market and are not diffused in other way.

MAP-DC project - PHC21 - 2015

MAP-DC project:  Music Assisted Prevention of elderly Depression and Cognitive impairment
PHC 21 – 2015: Advancing active and healthy ageing with ICT: Early risk detection and intervention

Starting  from the observation that in elderly depression there is a strong motivation-problem for any new activities, the project plans to:
1.    bringing depressive musical perception patterns to algorithms for ICT-detection
2.    finding of algorithms for ICT-prevention-interventions based in proofed music therapy
3.    developing these ICT-interventions also for use in social inclusion for two or more users
